WHY THIS INITIATIVE EXISTS

Understand the decision.
Examine its consequences.

A financial return, a change in resource use and an environmental outcome answer different questions. GreenOptima connects academic research with the tools needed to examine those relationships: economic appraisal, models of investment and policy, and careful interpretation of evidence.

Our research collection covers sustainable investing, emissions information, environmental policy and governance. The open course extends those questions across public investment, financial institutions and household decisions. Worked examples let readers trace the accounts, change an assumption and inspect what follows.

The initiative currently focuses on non-commercial research and open education. The aim is to make academic knowledge useful to students, researchers and people working on sustainability questions in practice.

RESEARCH & KNOWLEDGE EXCHANGE

Bring a question.
Work through it together.

We welcome ideas for joint research, workshops and analytical software with academia and industry. Topics could include portfolio decisions under uncertain emissions information, the design of environmental incentives, or the private and social consequences of an investment.

A useful starting point is a concrete decision: who is choosing, what information is available, which constraints matter and how the consequences will be assessed. Our appraisal lecture illustrates this approach through a fictional flood intervention.
